This isn’t Fun
Like most baseball fans, I enjoy watching this sport and rooting for my favorite team because I like to have fun. I want to watch the game from my sofa, or at a bar, or at the ballpark with my friends, with my dad, after a long day of work, I want to argue a little bit about stats or in-game strategy, cheer, have a beer, enjoy myself, and hopefully see the team win… Then go to bed, go back to work and do it all over again the next night.
However, right now – with the constant soap operas, the ‘public relations disasters,’ the losing, the mediocrity, the chaotic and curious decisions, the damn Yankees and the mainstream media’s snarkiness, that outlet is being stolen from us and instead replaced with ridiculous arguments about veterans hospitals, racism, Ponzi schemes and countless other things that have nothing to do with what happens on the field… and so, these days, being a Mets just isn’t much fun.
The reality is, if the Mets were in the middle of a pennant race right now, we’d be talking about a pennant race. It’s that simple.
The Mets need a new narrative and we need new players to root for, and everyone needs to get back to winning… for our sake and for theirs… so these ridiculous, obnoxious, side-show storylines can become a memory, and so that watching baseball can be fun again.
