Quote: Alderson on drafting over-slot
“I think in recent years it’s become clear that some clubs are gonna go over slot and what that allows you to do occasionally is to take a player who is otherwise unsignable and take that player in a later round and it can give you a competitive advantage. So, I’m not saying that we intend to go over-slot in every case, but I think we have gotten to the point where not only big market clubs are going over slot but small market clubs are going over-slot. They see it as a competitive advantage. I don’t think we can be left behind in that regard. I think we’ve got to be open minded about it and a we intend to be.”
~ Sandy Alderson, last night on SNY’s Mets Hot Stove
He’s saying all of the right things, there is no doubt about it.
However, the proof will be in next June’s draft.
