Carlos Beltran ‘hints’ at waiving no-trade clause
Earlier tonight on Twitter, ESPN’s Buster Olney said the Mets would probably have to eat around $6 million in a deal for Carlos Beltran, which would get them a Grade B-/C+ prospect.
Meanwhile, also on Twitter…
John Shea is the National baseball writer for the San Francisco Chronicle.
And this is where ‘in-the-moment reporting, through Twitter,’ without a filter, and little time to digest, gets complicated, because the emphasis here is on ‘hinted,’ and, I don’t know, maybe John Shea is really bad at reading body language. Or, maybe he’s awesome at it. Who knows? But, it’s not like this is a direct quote or some sort of hard news from a source, yet it gets Tweeted, ends up on MLB Trade Rumors, ends up here, and we’ll all talk about it… and we should talk about it, because it’s baseball and conversation is fun. But, let’s be honest about what we’re talking about, which is not a real trade rumor, but simply one guy’s interpretation of what Beltran may or may not have said in response to a direct question from a reporter. OK, Play ball…
