The Least You Should Know:
- Angel Pagan hit a solo walkoff homerun in the bottom of the tenth inning.
- R.A. Dickey wasn’t fooling anyone early, but settled down in the middle innings, taking a no-decision, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out two through 6.1 innings pitched. Dickey was also 2-for-2 with an RBI.
- Carlos Beltran impressed the Phillies scout in attendance, hitting a game-tying two-run homerun in the fifth inning during his 1-for-4 effort.
- Josh Thole picked up two runs batted in, going 2-for-4, including his 11th double of the season.
- Jason Bay left the game in the third inning with a tight right hamstring after attempting to catch a ball sliding into the wall in foul territory in left field.
- Jason Isringhausen picked up the win and looked strong in two scoreless innings of relief, including striking out Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman consecutively.
Quick Post Game Reaction:
- Mets showed their scrappiness tonight, coming from behind on two different occasions, including after a gutsy suicide squeeze call by Tony LaRussa in the eighth inning.
- R.A. Dickey didn’t have the knuckler dancing early, but in typical Dickster fashion managed to fight through and settle after giving up four runs earlier.
- Pedro Beato was impressive getting the pinch-hitting Albert Pujols to pop out with a man on third and two outs in the top of the seventh. Other than Bobby Parnell‘s hiccup in the eighth the Mets bullpen continued their impressive performance this month.
- What can you say other than it’s going to be sad to see Beltran go if he is traded within the next 10 days. Hopefully Mets fans appreciate what they have before it’s gone.
