Mets Morning News (on Wright, Santana & Maddoff)

The Mets won last night which you can read about here. Tonight, Chris Capuano (8-9, 4.16 ERA) and the Mets will continue their three game series against Clay Hensley (1-2, 2.70 ERA) and the Marlins in Sun Life Stadium at 7:10 pm.

In case you missed it, David Wright returned to the line-up last night after missing 59 games with a stress fracture in his lower back. He promptly reached base with an RBI double in his first at-bat, and finished the game with two doubles and two RBI in five at-bats.
“[David Wright] is a huge part of this team, huge part of the organization, and to have him be able to come back tonight and contribute right out of the gate is a huge lift,” Terry Collins said after the game. For more on Wright’s return, check out MLB.com, and the Star Ledger.
To make room for Wright on the roster, the Mets designated Nick Evans for assignment.

Last night, Jason Bay missed his second consecutive game to rest his right hamstring and sore hip. Prior to last night’s game, Terry Collins told reporters, “The contributing factors are the heat and he’s not 100 percent, so I just thought I’d give him one more day.” For more on Bay, check out MLB.com.
Yesterday, Johan Santana threw 43 pitches over three simulated innings in Port St. Lucie. According to Newsday, Dan Warthen expects Santana to pitch for the Mets this year. In addition, a team source told ESPN New York that Santana will throw a side session for the major league staff on Sunday, after which they’ll decide if Santana will make a rehab start Wednesday.
According to David Waldstein of the New York Times, the Mets contacted Scott Boras and were told Carlos Beltran would consider re-signing with the Mets in the off-season, even if he is traded in the coming days.
Irving Picard, the trustee in the Bernie Madoff clawback lawsuit, continued his pursuit of $1 billion-plus from the Wilpon family.
