Andy Martino of the Daily News says the Mets have agreed to terms with Scott Hairston on a Major League contract, and Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says the deal is for around $1.1 million.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post says Hairston is in New York undergoing a physical.

In 79 games for the Mets in 2011, Hairston, 31, hit .235 with a .303 OBP, 7 HR and 31 RBI in 145 plate appearances. Hairston hit .167 through April, but .254 the rest of the season.

Brian Erni: Though Hairston flashed pop from time-to-time off the bench, he never really seemed to get comfortable last year.

A career .274 hitter against lefies, Hairston hit nearly 30 points lower than that (.247) with one home run off left handers in 2011.

Michael Baron: Hairston had a strong camp last Spring, leading the team with four home runs in the Grapefruit League. He appeared to press early in the regular season and never really found the consistency he had in Spring Training. Still, he offers the Mets roster versatility as he can play multiple positions, and that is an area where the team has lacked generally in recent years.

In late October, Andy Martino of the Daily News said, “Willie Harris and Scott Hairston will not be resigned until much later in the offseason, if they are re-signed at all,” according to a source.
