Here is an e-mail from Mets fan and writer John Fischer sent in about Chris Young:
By all accounts, Young, 32, is now healthy, and he’d certainly be a bargain – especially on a minor league deal. Having recovered from surgery last May, to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder, he might well provide pitching depth to a rotation with plenty of questions.
Young’s health has been a question throughout much of his 8-year career. However, with proven Major League arms at a premium, Young seems worth the risk. If nothing else, if the team struggles, a one-on-one hoop game featuring Young and new set-up man John Rauch might make for an interesting sideshow.
Last week on Twitter, ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick said, “Sandy Alderson has confirmed the Mets are open to bringing back Young,” though it would likely be on a minor league deal.
In December, on a conference call with reporters, Alderson said he had recently met with Young in San Diego, adding, “He’s the kind of guy we might re-sign under the right circumstances.”
Young talked to MLB.com in December and said he expects to be ready for Spring Training, despite having major shoulder surgery last May
Young, 32, made just four starts for the Mets in 2011. He went 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings.
