Final Score: Mets 3 Brewers 1

posted on May 14th, 2012 at 10:07 pm

The Mets (20-15) defeated the Brewers (15-20) tonight by a score of 3-1.

The Least You Should Know:

  • Miguel Batista pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five.
  • Daniel Murphy extended his hitting streak to 10 games, going 2-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored.
  • Ronny Cedeno drove in run on a successful suicide squeeze in the sixth inning.
  • David Wright went 1-for-3, dropping his average to .398.
  • Tim Brydak and Bobby Parnell combined to pitch perfect eighth inning.
  • Frank Francisco notched his ninth save of the season, but not before allowing a run to score and letting the tying runs get on base.

Mike Nichols: It was another stressful ninth inning, but Francisco got it done. Terry Collins can show all the faith he wants in Francisco. However, even if the saves are “successful” I’m not sure how many more games Collins can watch this from Francisco before making a move to replace him.

Positively speaking, how wonderful is it to see this team consistently comeback after tough losses the day before? Prior Mets teams would be racking up a string of losses if such had occurred. Not this team. They dust it off and get back to work the next day. Even when it doesn’t necessarily look pretty, they got the job done by taking advantage of their opponents miscues. A product of their manager, I believe.

How good was Batista tonight? More like BEASTista looking strong throwing seven scoreless innings. Granted it was an underperforming and replacement filled Brewers lineup, but still, when you get a strong performance from your fifth starter you take it every time, no matter the opponent.

Mets will consider Mejia after rehab starts

posted on May 9th, 2012 at 5:38 pm

Mets prospect Jenrry Mejia is scheduled to make four rehab starts before the team will decide if the 22-year old right-handed pitcher can help the Major League team in the bullpen or rotation, according to multiple reports.

Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger reported earlier the team is continuing to groom Mejia as starter, but it is believed his future with the big league club is as a reliever.

Mejia, who made his first start this morning since since undergoing Tommy John surgery last May, allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings pitched for Class-A St. Lucie.
