Positively speaking, how wonderful is it to see this team consistently comeback after tough losses the day before? Prior Mets teams would be racking up a string of losses if such had occurred. Not this team. They dust it off and get back to work the next day. Even when it doesn’t necessarily look pretty, they got the job done by taking advantage of their opponents miscues. A product of their manager, I believe.
How good was Batista tonight? More like BEASTista looking strong throwing seven scoreless innings. Granted it was an underperforming and replacement filled Brewers lineup, but still, when you get a strong performance from your fifth starter you take it every time, no matter the opponent.

Prior to tonight’s game against the Phillies, Mets Manager Terry Collins met with the media and basically said the following, according to reporters:
- Is not conceding tonight’s game by filling the lineup with reserve players, such as Scott Hairston and Vinny Rottino. He would have played this lineup regardless if the team had not won the first two games of the series.
- Collins also indicated the lack of success from the left-handed regulars against lefty pitchers this season and noted Haiston’s success against southpaws this season and Rottino’s strong numbers in Buffalo.
- Said the upcoming schedule and the lack of days off over the rest of the month was a significant factor in playing the backups to get them “sharp.”
- Believes Lucas Duda needs the extra rest after losing 10 pounds from his recent bout with the flu.
- Is unsure if Ronny Cedeno will be activated from the disabled list on Friday as expected. Collins would like to see him face higher level pitching before being activated since Cedeno will be the everyday shortstop until Ruben Tejada returns.
- Had Jordany Valdespin workout early with infield coach Tim Teufel to work on fielding throws from the catcher and his technique on pick off throws.
Mets prospect Jenrry Mejia is scheduled to make four rehab starts before the team will decide if the 22-year old right-handed pitcher can help the Major League team in the bullpen or rotation, according to multiple reports.
Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger reported earlier the team is continuing to groom Mejia as starter, but it is believed his future with the big league club is as a reliever.
Mejia, who made his first start this morning since since undergoing Tommy John surgery last May, allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings pitched for Class-A St. Lucie.
