According to ESPN.com, the Giants have signed free-agent OF Aaron Rowand to a five-year contract.

Rowand hit .309 with 27 home runs and 89 RBI with the Phillies last season.

Buzz: Dodgers Like, Like Andruw Jones

According to MLB.com, citing a ‘club official,’ the Dodgers have ‘stepped up talks’ with free-agent OF Andruw Jones, who is believed to be seeking a five-year, $90 million deal.

…i keep getting e-mails referencing a report that suggested the Mets could go offer jones if Lastings Milledge got traded…the thing is, the Mets got Ryan Church for milledge, and, according to Omar Minaya, he sees church as his every-day, starting right fielder…i do not believe the Mets have much interest in jones, unless, maybe, he’d consider a one-year deal…

…by the way, the early buzz from Nashville suggests that Aaron Rowand will likely sign a deal this week, as he continues to seek a five-year contract…once he is off the board, most people believe that jones may eventually sign for a deal between what rowand gets and what Torii Hunter got from the Angels, though i’ll believe that when i see it…

In a recent report for SI.com, Jon Heyman writes that there is little chance of the Phillies bringing back free-agent OF Aaron Rowand, seeing as they have a ‘more cost-effective alternative’ in Shane Victorino.

…the early buzz from philly suggests rowand is seeking a six-year deal, worth roughly $14 million per season, though teams value him more in the range of Eric Byrnes, who recently signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the D’Backs…

Earlier this month, at ESPN.com, Peter Gammons made a variety of suggestions on how the Mets could improve for next season, one of which put Rowand in right field.
