In a post to his blog, Big League Stew, ‘Duk posts a picture of Dominican authorities taking a smiling Burgos into custody while wearing a White Sox hat.

Burgos, who missed the entire season due to elbow surgery, was also arrested last month for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend while staying at a hotel near Shea Stadium.

The Mets later released the following statement, which read:

“We are extremely disturbed by the reports regarding the player’s potential involvement in the hit and run accident that unfortunately killed two women in the Dominican Republic. We take this matter very seriously and have begun an internal investigation to ascertain the facts. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the families of the victims.”

In early September, Burgos was arrested for beating up his girlfriend at a hotel near Shea Stadium.

According to the story, “he repeatedly punched her on the back, bit her and slapped her.”

Burgos will be arraigned today in Queens on assault and harassment charges.

According to SNY’s Brendan Kuty, the Mets told reporters prior to today’s game that they are ‘very disturbed by the allegations charged against Ambiorix Burgos.

The team said he was not in New York for reasons related to the Mets, and they will continue to monitor the situation as it progresses.

Also, Trot Nixon went 2 for 3 with an RBI as the team’s DH.

In 17 appearances for the Mets in 2007, Burgos was 1–0 with a 3.42 ERA, during which he struck out 19 batters in 23 innings while batters hit just .200 against him.

Lastly, over the weekend, Moises Alou, Jason Vargas and Ambiorix Burgos were placed on the 15–day disabled list retroactive to March 21.
