The Mets have announced nine players will be added to the roster before tomorrow’s game versus the Brewers.

In addition to Marlon Anderson being activated from the disabled list, INF Ramon Martinez, C Gustavo Molina, RHP Carlos Muniz, LHP Jon Niese, RHP Robert Parnell, RHP Al Reyes, 2B Argenis Reyes and LHP Ricardo Rincon will join the team in Milwaukee.

Following tonight’s game, Jerry Manuel told reporters that Carlos Muniz will be optioned back to Triple-A New Orleans, when John Maine is activated from the disabled list.

The Mets have placed Tony Armas Jr. on the 15-day disabled list due to a pulled adominal muscle.

Carlos Muniz has been recalled to take Armas’ spot on the 25-man roster.

…jeez, muniz is racking up the frequent flyer miles on the Heath Bell Express…

Carlos Muniz has once again been demoted back to Triple-A New Orleans.

Last night, he let up a walk-off home run to Troy Glaus with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

According to Adam Rubin, at his blog for the Daily News, citing ‘pregame buzz,’ Chris Aguila will likely replace Muniz on the roster until Moises Alou returns.

In six at bats with the Mets in June, the 29–year-old Aguila had one hit and struck out twice.

Claudio Vargas has been designated for assignment, and will be replaced by RHP Carlos Muniz.

…of the people who pitched last night, i’m not sure vargas is the guy who should be getting sent to the minor leaguers, quite frankly…

Prior to letting up four runs in two innings last night, Vargas had a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings since moving to the bullpen on May 30.

Nevertheless, Muniz did not allow a run in his first five appearances for the Mets this season, but let up four in his final outing on June 2.

…muniz had a bad outing that last time up, otherwise he had been looking pretty good…get him off the Heath Bell Express and just let him settle in…i’d like to see what he’s got…

News: Wise to the DL

Matt Wise has been placed on the 15–day disabled list with a strained shoulder.

RHP Carlos Muniz has arrived at Shea Stadium, and will take Wise’s spot on the roster, as had been reported earlier today by Adam Rubin of the Daily News.

In three appearances earlier this season, Muniz allowed no runs and two hits while striking out two batters.

According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News, RHP Carlos Muniz is on his way from New Orleans to Shea Stadium.

Rubin continues on to explain why Aaron Heilman or Matt Wise could be the player Muniz replaces.

Minors: SNY talks to AFL Scouts

At SNY, Michael Salfino speaks with a few scouts and team advisors about Mets players who are taking part in the Arizona Fall League.

Deric McKamey, advisor to the Cardinals and author of Minor League Baseball Analyst told Salfino the following about Mets RHP Eddie Kunz:

“I’m not as big a fan as some scouts. He throws 89-to-94 with a slider in the low-80s and a developing change. His command is an issue, a big problem for a short reliever. He struggled with his control for Oregon State even.

“I see him as a notch below an Aaron Heilman, more of a seventh-inning guy.”

Salfino also talks with scouts and Baseball America’s Jim Callis about LHP Adam Bostick and Eddie Comacho; RHP Carlos Muniz; 1B Mike Carp; OF Caleb Stewart; and some of the major NL East prospects playing in Arizona.

Minors: Carp, Muniz on AFL’s “Rising Star” Showcase roster

The Arizona Fall League released its East and West rosters for its second annual “Rising Star” showcase game, and Mike Carp and Carlos Muniz, two of the seven Mets’ prospects playing for the AFL’s Scottsdale Scorpions.

The League’s press release described the game and the selection process, stating…

“It places as many top prospects as possible on one field at one time. It’s a natural way to showcase the tremendous talent rising in baseball…

“Scouting and minor league directors of every organization had the opportunity to complete a ballot to select the players for Friday’s game. Most roster selections were based upon their input.”

Meanwhile, the article explains that “strong performances in the AFL are a nice bonus, but not a requirement for being invited to play in this game. Rather, these are rosters filled with players believed to have the most upside potential and are thus ‘on the rise.”

Carp, a 21-year old first baseman who battled injuries while in Double-A Binghamton this season, is hitting .256 with three doubles, no homers and seven RBI in 39 Fall League at bats. In 359 Binghamton at bats this past season, he hit .251 with 16 doubles and 11 homers, missing time with a broken hand and then struggling thereafter.

Muniz, a 26-year old right handed reliever who served as Binghamton’s closer this season, is 0-0 with a 3.18 ERA in four appearances for the Scorpions, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits and three walks, in 5.2 innings thus far. He has struck out five, while surrendering two homers. Muniz saved 23 games for the B-Mets this year, putting up a 2.45 ERA in 58.2 innings over 44 appearances. He walked 17 and struck out 62.
