Ken Rosenthal, in a post to his blog for Fox Sports, says that J.J. Putz, under the right circumstances, would accept a setup role.
Putz’s agent, Craig Landis said:
“He has a preference to be a closer, but absolutely will not rule out an eighth-inning job depending upon many factors.”

Adam Rubin, in a post to his blog for the Daily News, is reporting that the Mets have now officially declined the option for reliever J.J. Putz.
In addition, the Mets announced that they have exercised the $500,000 option on Mike Pelfrey.
Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post says the Mets have told JJ Putz they will not pick up his option for 2010.

Joe Janish, in a post to Mets Today, wonders whether or not the Mets should exercise the $8.6 million option for J.J. Putz.
Janish points out that the Mets ignored the elbow problem that kept him out of action for a month in 2008, and that Jerry Manuel rode him hard early on.

The Brooklyn Cyclones, in a posting to their Facebook page, have announced that J.J. Putz will not make his scheduled rehab appearance tonight.
The reason for the change is unknown.

Prior to yesterday’s game, Carlos Beltran said the bone bruise on his knee has not improved.
However, he has been hitting, throwing and running in a pool and has every intention of getting back on the field.

Gary Sheffield left last night’s game due to an apparent injury to his hamstring.
However, it was later reported that Sheffield had a cramp in his leg and it is not expected to be serious.
