Reyes will have the operation performed by Dr. Daniel E. Cooper at North Central Surgical in Dallas.

Doctors feel that the tear to the hamstring muscle will heal with rest, and Reyes is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for Spring Training.

The exact date was not specified, but the procedure will be performed by Dallas Cowboys team physician in Dallas, Texas.

During last Monday’s press conference at Citi Field, Jeff Wilpon said that the Dodgers team doctors incorrectly diagnosed his leg injury, calling it a calf injury when, in fact, the Dodgers say their team doctor, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, correctly diagnosed Reyes as having a partially torn hamstring accessory tendon.

Both ElAttrache and the Mets were in agreement that Reyes could attempt to play with the injury in hopes that the tear did not worsen.

…it boggles my mind that the Mets would continue to claim it was nothing more than a calf strain, but i guess this incident is one of many that wilpon said he would fix as part of the team’s ‘better communication’ of team injuries in 2010…

Last week, Adam Rubin of the Daily News sat down with Kiners Korner for a Q&A, and Rubin said, “Almost uniformly [players] said that they were pushed to play though injuries that would have landed them on the DL had they been with other organizations.”

…i just don’t know how this could go on with one of the cornerstone’s of the franchise in reyes, let alone anyone for that matter… if a physician diagnoses him with a torn hamstring tendon, why would the team attempt to mask the problem and have him run on it, not allowing it time to heal, let alone not operate at that point to get him back sooner and not further jeopardize his season and potentially his career… then again, the team still has not announced the date for surgery…

Reyes will be learning in the next couple of days whether a second opinion calls for surgery.

According to Heyman, the day before he tore the tendon he was feeling confident that he would be able to play one more game this season, and he might have pushed himself too hard in trying to come back.

…i’m not too clear on why Jose would be trying to come back to play in one game down the stretch, other than to prove to people that he is healthy, but one game doesn’t do that for me…but something also has to be said about the fact that the Mets medical staff didn’t just shut him down which could have led to this worsened condition…

…that said, if he was working to come back at the end, it shows me that he has a strong work ethic and that he was disappointed in what happened this year…

Manuel told reporters:

“If that type of stuff could be witnessed and could be somewhat intense or close to game action, it would be very satisfying.”

Despite the encouraging results, Reyes will not play for the remainder of the year, but is expected to play either winter ball or workout at the Mets facility in the Dominican Republic during the offseason.

…I just want to see reyes turn the page on this entire ordeal and come back in the right shape, confident in the health of his leg so he can be what the team needs him to be at the top of this lineup…

…that is disappointing to me…i am a believer that if the player is not on a rehab assignment, he should be with his team in the dugout during games…i know there are always personal reasons as to why players do certain things but i still believe he should be there…

Meanwhile, Jose Reyes will attempt to run on Saturday, but Manuel believes that it is a long shot that he will see any action in the final week of the season.,

Delgado, who is currently recovering from hip surgery and a strained oblique muscle, did take batting practice indoors yesterday at Turner Field.

In addition, Costa is reporting that Jose Reyes, who said last week that he would soon test his injured hamstring, is still only receiving massages on his leg.

Reyes will continue physical therapy in hopes of breaking up the scar tissue and reduce the inflammation.

…the team has not said so, but, at this late date, this must mean he is effectively done for the season… i mean, he’s going to need time to work back, run full speed, etc., then play minor league games, all for what, to play in a week or two in September…

…is it me, or has this been a long, strange trip for reyes… first it was a cramp, then he hurt it on the flight, he rested, it was a calf, then a hamstring, then a tendon, he had platelet therapy, now there is scar tissue and still issues with the hamstring, all while months have gone by…

…i mean, it reads like a lead from The Onion… the thing is, it’s the truth… and, what’s worse, it’s not the least bit surprising…

According to the team, X-rays on Castillo’s ankle were negative.

…how paranoid is David Wright… if i’m him, i am making no sudden movements, i am certainly not walking under latters, and i’m taking small, careful steps when getting out of the shower… go slow, man…

Speaking of injuries…

Jose Reyes returned from St. Lucie yesterday to be examined by team doctors in New York.

According to the team, Reyes continues to feel discomfort in his leg.

…as i said a few weeks ago, from what i understand, the tendon connecting his hamstring and his knee is strained… i have no idea what this means… but, the team and jose continue to believe he can return to action this season… according to people close to reyes, he wants to play, but he’s nervous that he may do more damage and make things worse… the way i understand, he shut it down late last week, but could not fire it back up over the weekend… my bet, however, which is an educated guess, is when news from the doctor comes in, they’ll just shut him down and start work on getting him ready for next season…

…i said it a few weeks ago, and i’ll say it again, surgery is still on the table for reyes… and, this news, today, stinks… at this point, if he’s shut down for even a few days for rest, he may as well just shut it down for the season… seriously… at best, i’m thinking if all went well starting this weekend, what, he’s back the first week of September… just rest, do what has to be done so he’s healthy for 2010…
