Meanwhile, Keith Hernandez appeared on SNY’s SportsNite last night, and called the current era of baseball ‘tainted,’ adding, saying any player who used steroids should not be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Hernandez said people who used steroids are greedy, and speculates that he may have hit hit 90 more home runs during his career, among other additional stat totals, meaning, when coupled with his 11 Gold Gloves, he could easily be in the Hall of Fame today, which he is not.

…i love keith, but, i recall hearing him talk quite a lot on air about the issue of speed and an amphetamines in baseball during the 80s… i don’t understand why people who argue about drugs in baseball only seem to speak about steroids, and not the other drugs that clearly influenced the game over the years…

Speaking of ex-Mets…

Roberto Alomar is being sued by an ex-girlfriend, who is alleging he insisted upon having unprotected sex while he had AIDS, according to a report in today’s Daily News.

…i actually had no intention of posting this, and had been ignoring the link, because i am not sure why it matters to MetsBlog… however, LOTS of people e-mailed it to me, so, clearly there is interest, despite what i initially thought…

When asked what invention he wishes he had thought of, Hernandez said, ‘Velcro,’ and when asked of his favorite motto, he said, ‘Just Win, Baby,’ made famous by the Oakland Raiders.

Hernandez also says there is too much music playing during a baseball game, and he dislikes front-running fans.

Lastly, his heroes are Jesus Christ, Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill and Harry Truman, his favorite drink is a Perfect “Knob Creek” Manhattan Up, and, of course, his favorite blog is MetsBlog.com

In case you missed it during Wednesday night’s game, Gary Cohen asked Hernandez how he beat out Dae Sung Koo for the great honor, in which Keith responded with silence – then jokes that it was a toss up between him and Josa Lima.

I always find it hilarious how upset Hernandez gets when someone else is wearing No. 17, especially pitchers.

According to my wife, Hernandez would eliminate 17 from the numerical system if it was possible.

Among the topics discussed include, if Jerry Manuel deserves credit for the Mets turnaround, what to expect from Pedro Martinez and if he is concerned about criticising players during the broadcast.

According to Hubbuch, citing ‘one player,’ Reyes and Hernandez were close to exchanging punches on the team charter until others stepped in.

…well, you know what, i’m proud of keith for speaking his mind on air, and i’m glad to see reyes sticking up for himself…

…they had a heated argument, or ‘confrontation,’ or whatever they want to call it, they did not come to blows, and so they argued it out like men and now let’s move on…

…i understand this is a sensationalistic, exciting story for people to talk about in print, on blogs and on radio, but, the fact is, this isn’t a tea party…none of these people are required to be friends…they’re only requirement is to do their job, be it on air or on the field…so, it’s hard for me to really care about this topic…

…i mean, two jocks got in to an argument because one called the other a name…wow…imagine that…what a shocker…

…that said, i am so sick and tired of wasting time writing about who should be fired, who shouldn’t, front-office deception, fights between players and broadcasters, possible clubhouse division, eighth-inning sing-a-longs, home run apples, and every other off-field soap opera that has been forced upon me through the text-media this season…it’s ridiculous…

In case you are interested, there is a real-live baseball game being played tonight in Philadelphia between the third-place Mets and the first-place Phillies at 7:05 pm.

In the New York Post, Brian Costello does a fantastic job of recapping the trade, as well the legacy that Hernandez has established during his time in New York.

In the article, Costello asks Hernandez if he would consider being manager of the Mets, as was speculated about recently, to which Hernandez said:

“My name always comes up.  I’m not interested.  It did make me uncomfortable because I like Willie.  I think he’s a good field manager.  Managing entails so much more today than it did in my time [as a player].  I’m just not prepared to make that kind of commitment.”
