The Rangers released Frank Catalanotto yesterday, according to MLB.com.
The 34–year-old Catalanotto, who was born in Long Island, hit .274 with a 26 extra base hits and a .342 OBP in 88 games with Texas last season.

Adam Rubin of the Daily News reports Mets prospect Dan Murphy has been promoted from Triple-A New Orleans and will join the Mets in Houston tonight for their game against the Astros.

This past weekend, the Mets signed 30–year-old free-agent OF John Rodriguez to a minor-league contract. 
Rodriguez, who was 1 for 3 in his first game for Triple-A New Orleans yesterday, hit .298 in 158 career games for the Cardinals in 2005 and 2006. 
He spent all of 2007 with Triple-A Memphis.

News: Marlon Anderson has Torn Hamstring

The Mets announced yesterday that Marlon Anderson has a torn left hamstring, according to the results of a recent MRI.
Anderson was put on the disabled list over the weekend, after injuring himself while running the bases on Friday.
Anderson told reporters that he is able to walk right, but not run.

According to the Associated Press, the Mets signed Marlon Anderson to a two-year, $2.2 million contract on Tuesday.
Anderson, who will receive $1.05 million next year and $1.15 million in 2009, batted .345 with one homer and 14 RBIs as a pinch-hitter this season.
