…i heard an unconfirmed story yesterday that, on Friday night, in front of Mike Piazza, Tom Seaver and other Mets notables, Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez proclaimed, ‘There will be no post-season in New York this season, gentlemen.’…like i said, i don’t know that this is 100 percent true, but does it matter…seriously…

…what’s interesting is that, despite the Phillies winning the NL East for the second-straight season, and despite all the agony that has been caused by Bobby Cox and the Braves over the years, it is the Marlins who i hope to go 0–162 next season…

According to Frisaro, Lo Duca will report to the Marlins Triple-A Albuquerque affiliate on Saturday.

…the buzz from Miami last week had been that the Marlins might look in to trading for lo duca during the Trade Deadline…

In a post to MLB.com, Marlins reporter Joe Frisaro believes Giants C Benjie Molina is high on Florida’s shopping list, which also includes Nationals C Paul Lo Duca, Blue Jays C Gregg Zaun and Rangers C Gerald Laird.

…oh, man, can you imagine how excited lo duca would be to return to Miami and compete against the Mets in a pennant race…i like it…bring it on…

The Marlins have also shown interest in Pirates C Ryan Doumit and O’s C Ramon Hernandez, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

In a recent report for FoxSports.com, citing a team official, Ken Rosenthal wrote that there is a 50 percent chance that the Rangers end up trading Jarrod Saltalamacchia or Laird, who the Yankees are very interested in acquiring.

Lo Duca, on his team in-dugout cheerleading, and Nelson Figueroa’s reaction, while speaking to WFAN:

“I’m not a big fan of it to be honest with you…You know, we’re struggling.  Guys are just trying to have a little fun.  I think they saw Figueroa getting a little upset, so they amped it up a couple of notches.  I do think it’s a little bush league.  At first it started off as a little fun, until he got mad. I don’t agree with it.  But, also, Nelson Figueroa has nine wins in the big leagues and he needs to keep his mouth shut.”

In the reports, Lo Duca insists he was never contacted by the Mets during this past off-season – and at no point did he demand a contract worth three years, as the Mets suggested, because contract talks never, ever began.

…the news here is, did the Mets use a bit of inaccurate, but effective spin to frame lo duca as greedy and unreasonable, so that when he was not retained, it would be an easier sell to a fan base who was clearly in his favor…or, has lo duca spun it as such, so that he can remain a sympathetic figure…

…at any rate, i liked lo duca, but it’s 2008…so, enjoy dc, paulie…eat at CityZen or Capital Grille, do well, but not that well, and now let’s all move on…

…jeez, glad i didn’t have the wheel – as i preferred that the Mets re-sign lo duca…had the Mets re-signed him, which was clearly never an option, they would have had to answer a ton of questions about the Mitchell Report, plus potentially be without a starting catcher come opening day…ouch…

In the section dealing with players who had been in contact with Kirk Randomski, the Report reads…

“Radomski has known Hundley since 1988, when Radomski worked for the Mets and Hundley played in the Mets’ minor league system.  Radomski stated that, beginning in 1996, he sold Deca-Durabolin and testosterone to Hundley on three or four occasions.  At the beginning of that year, Radomski told Hundley that if he used steroids, he would hit 40 home runs.  Hundley hit 41 home runs in 1996, having never hit more than 16 in any prior year…

“In order to provide Hundley with information about these allegations and to give him an opportunity to respond, I asked him to meet with me; he declined.

“Todd Hundley referred Lo Duca to Radomski when Lo Duca played for the Dodgers.  Radomski estimated that he engaged in six or more transactions with Lo Duca.  In some transactions, Radomski sent the performance enhancing substances by overnight mail to Lo Duca’s home or to the Dodgers clubhouse and Lo Duca sent Radomski a check a week or so later.

“Radomski produced copies of three checks from Lo Duca, each in the amount of $3,200. All are included in the Appendix. Radomski said that each check was in payment for two kits of human growth hormone.  Lo Duca’s name, with an address and telephone number, is listed in the address book seized from Radomski’s residence by federal agents.  In order to provide Lo Duca with information about these allegations and to give him an opportunity to respond, I asked him to meet with me; he declined.”
