Jason at Faith and Fear in Flushing asks if this is the most disappointing season in Mets history, and lists his top five of all time.

MetsGrrl doesn’t even think she’s “supporting the team in the true sense of the word.”

In the offseason, Promote The Curse proposes five changes that should happen to Citi Field, including “Murals, placards, neon lights,” and, “do something with the stairwells.”

…they are completely barren, but, hey, so were the ramps at shea… if the Mets ever start contending, those stairwells will be rocking… but until then, they are just lifeless exits…

Instead of spoilers,  the Mets are ’sweeteners,’ explains Metstradamus.

Finally, since living in the moment is no fun, Never Forget ‘69 relives this day in Mets history, writing, “Seaver manhandled the Expos lineup striking out 9, walking 3, allowing just 5 hits and more importantly, no runs. Another complete game, Seaver’s sixth in a row, was the ace’s 23rd of the season.”

The Least You Should Know:

After a two hour rain delay, they finally got under way in Atlanta.

Ugh…with a 5-4 lead in the eighth, Francisco Rodriguez was called on to get the four out save.  He cruised through the frame, but blew his sixth save of the season in the ninth and gets the loss. Garret Anderson doubled past Daniel Murphy, and Brian McCann was then hit by a pitch.  The runners advanced on a fielder’s choice to first, and with one out, K-Rod intentionally walked Adam LaRoche to load the bases.  Omar Infante promptly hit a sac fly to tie the game.  Then, Ryan Church hit a chopper to first which Murphy completely booted, twice in fact, allowing the winning run to score.

The Mets had 16 hits to the Braves’ 9, but lose.  How low can you go.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the second, Josh Thole hit a single to right field, scoring Jeff Francouer and Jeremy Reed. David Wright then had an opposite field hit to the same spot to drive in Luis Castillo, giving the Mets an early three run lead.

Over the next two innings, Bobby Parnell gave the lead right back, and was not impressive to say the least.  He lasted only 3.1 innings, and gave up four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits.  Parnell simply had no command, and his secondary pitches were completely ineffective.

With the game being tied in the eighth, Omir Santos came in and had a pinch hit home run to give the Mets a 5-4 lead…which would eventually not matter at all.

Other Observations and Notes:

No Mets should sleep well tonight, but I am beyond tired. I really thought they would win this one but I probably should have know better.

Derek Lowe left the game after two innings with a blister on his right hand.

The Mets bullpen, all five of those who appeared between Parnell and K-Rod, did not allow any earned runs.

Someone in the SNY booth kept sighing which was funny, yet did not help keep me engaged during this redeye.

Up Next:

The Mets hope to avoid being swept tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m., with Nelson Figueroa (2-5, 4.57 ERA) taking on Jair Jurrjens (11-10, 2.81 ERA).

The Least You Should Know:

Pat Misch struggled mightily in the first inning, allowing four Marlins to score. Three of which crossed the plate on a three-run homer by Cody Ross.  Misch settled down rather nicely however, and completed six innings, allowing just one more run, a solo shot by Dan Uggla.

Ricky Nolasco stymied the Mets for most of the game, allowing only one hit until the sixth inning.

The Mets chipped away in the seventh. Carlos Beltran hit a rope that moved David Wright from first to third.  Daniel Murphy then notched a RBI double. Jeff Francoeur battled Nolasco to a full count, and brought Beltran home on a sac fly, and Fernando Tatis capped off the scoring with a ground out to score Murphy.

With no outs in the eighth, Cory Sullivan walked and Angel Pagan nailed a ball right to Jorge Cantu who easily doubled up Sullivan, deflating the Mets chances to rally.

Misc., Etc., and Other Stuff:

Ron and Keith did well without the keystone, Gary Cohen in the booth.  It was a  leisurely game to watch, even if the Mets seemed flat tonight.

Nice in-game interview by Kevin Burkhardt with Josh Thole’s dad who still throws his son batting practice in the winter.

At least the fans all got free hot dogs.

What’s Next for the Mets:

The Mets try to avoid the sweep as they conclude their series with the Marlins tomorrow night, with Bobby Parnell (3-7, 5.25) facing Sean West (6-5, 4.61) at 7:10 p.m.

The Least You Should Know:

Tim Redding had another good outing. He once again started shakily, allowing a solo home run to the second batter of the game, but settled down and went 6.2 innings, allowed seven hits, two runs, and had six strikeouts.  He only walked one and has improved in each of his last three starts.

The game was tied until the eighth inning when the “stokes”  fell off.  Brian Stokes came into the game, and with the bases loaded Jason Giambi got his first hit as a Rockie, squeaking one over Anderson Hernandez’s glove to drive in two.   Yorvit Torrealba then followed up with a RBI single to make it 5-2.

It was a very good game on both sides until then. In the fifth, Angel Pagan covered major ground to track down a potential run scoring hit, relayed to Wilson Valdez, who then gunned out Carlos Gonzalez at the plate.  Again, all for naught.

Misc., Etc. and Other Stuff:

Jeff Francoeur hit a solo shot in the seventh, and almost put a 9-3 in the scorebook after nearly throwing out Ubaldo Jimenez at first on a shallow single.

Speaking of Jimenez, he was impressive and went eight strong innings.

Keith Hernandez needs to work on his inflection when reading the promos. However, he did make up for it by discussing The Great Gazoo of Flintstones fame.

It’s late, go to sleep.

What’s Next for the Mets:

The Mets conclude their series with the Rockies on Thursday at 3:10 p.m., with Pat Misch taking the hill against Jason Marquis.

He is scheduled to start in the field tomorrow and play five innings.

Angel Pagan will leadoff, followed in order by Luis Castillo, Daniel Murphy, Jeff Francoeur, Fernando Tatis, Omir Santos,  Cory Sullivan in leftfield, and Wilson Valdez at shortstop.

Misch (0-1, 4.09 ERA) is making his first start of the year for the Mets.  In his most recent appearance last Sunday, he went four scoreless innings.

Misch has a career ERA of 7.36 against the Cubs, and hasn’t had much success at Wrigley in the past. In just under three innings of relief work, Misch has allowed three runs on three hits and two walks at the old park.

Lilly (9-8, 3.40 ERA) has given up just two runs in 12 innings over his last two starts.  However, he hasn’t been given much run support, as the Cubs scored just once in those games. He is 2-1 in five career starts against the Mets.

The Least You Should Know:

It was a landslide at Land Shark Stadium today. Every starting position player had at least two hits, topped off by Daniel Murphy who had three RBI on the day. Angel Pagan, and Fernando Tatis also had solo homers today. Overall, the Mets notched 17 hits.

Tim Redding had a shaky start, giving up a leadoff home run to Chris Coghlan who had two solo shots, but then got out of a bases loaded jam and pitched relatively well today. He went into the seventh inning and gave up two other solo homers and five total hits, but that was it.

Other Observations and Notes:

The Mets’ five game losing streak has ended, and all twelve people at Land Shark Stadium were there to see it on a hot day in Miami.

When Coghlan homered to start the game, I rolled my eyes and expected the worst. I was wrong, and if Redding can give the Mets that kind of production the rest of the way, it will be tremendous.

Nice, clean game. They put the ball in play when it mattered, and it paid off today.

The Next Game:

The Mets start a three game series against the Cubs tomorrow at 2:20 p.m. with Pat Misch (0-1, 4.09) making his first start of the year, opposing Ted Lilly (9-8, 3.40) at Wrigley Field.

The Least You Should Know:

If not Mike Pelfrey, then who? Big Pelf went 5.2 innings and allowed five runs on 11 hits.  He also added to the Mets’ major league leading walk total, by giving free passes to five Marlins.  He evaded a first inning, bases loaded jam, but gave up a two-run “triple” to Cody Ross in the third.  Ronny Paulino then hit a bomb into the left-centerfield stands to make it 4-2.

Cy Young candidate Josh Johnson struck out seven, and is now 7-0 lifetime against the Mets.

The Mets actually had the lead in the second thanks to Fernando Tatis, who drove in Cory Sullivan.  Anderson Hernandez also had a RBI in the frame. They would score only once more on a Sullivan sac fly in the sixth.

Other Observations and Notes:

Cory Sullivan has an arm. He gunned down Dan Uggla at second, and threw a bullet to home on a fly late in the game.

I feel like they are just playing the games as a formality at this point.  Maybe it’s just my disappointed perception, but I hope the Mets don’t feel the same.

The Mets finish their series against the Marlins tomorrow in Miami at 1:10 p.m. with Tim Redding (1-4, 6.10) facing off against Anibal Sanchez (2-4, 4.97).
