Tonight, at 9 pm, SNY will premiere Miracle in New York: The Story of the 1969 Mets.

According to SNY, “The documentary recounts one of the greatest sports stories of all time - the unlikely and magical championship season of the 1969 Mets. Narrated by Tim Robbins, the documentary weaves the action on the field with the other remarkable events of 1969, like the Woodstock Festival and astronaut Neil Armstrong’s moon walk. The hour long film features Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Jimmy Breslin, Mets announcer Gary Cohen, and many others.”

To watch a clip of the film, click here.

To read Michael Baron’s review of the documentary, click below:

The Mets winning the World Series, as described by narrator Tim Robbins, showed the world in a time of uncertainty that anything is possible.

The documentary chronicles the entire 1969 season beginning in Spring Training when the Mets were coming off their seventh straight losing season and were the laughing stock of the National League. But after the 1968 season, in which they lost 89 games and finished in ninth place, manager Gil Hodges began to preach a winning philosophy to his team, which had begun to develop two incredible starting pitchers in Jerry Koosman and Tom Seaver. Losing, as former coach Joe Pignatano quoted Hodges, ‘was no longer funny.’

In a year of remarkable, historical moments, from assassination to war, from moon landings to Woodstock, Howie Rose describes the Mets winning the World Championship in 1969 as yet another one of the unique moments in that year. The club, as described by Robbins, brought hope and belief back to this country - and New York City in particular - after it had seen bloodshed overseas and many of it’s leaders fall during that decade.

Miracle in New York: The Story of the 1969 Mets airs tonight on SNY.
